Cosmetic Dentistry
- Dental Crowns and bridges are the most common restorative procedure in the dental industry. Custom porcelain crowns and bridges restore the look and function of teeth that have been lost or damaged. They also give patients the confidence of a restored smile without more invasive procedures or removal of damaged dentition. We provide same day dental crowns and bridges, see below for more information:
What’s the Difference?
A crown is used to replace a single tooth, while a bridge is used to cover a row of missing teeth.
Why Get Dental Crowns?- Can be used for weakened tooth structure caused by too much filling material, thus preventing fractures.
- Can be used to protect root canal therapy treated teeth from fractures
- To whiten, realign, or reshape existing teeth
- Can be used to help stabilize partials
Why Get Dental Bridges?
- To regain function of missing teeth
- Prevent teeth from shifting due to missing teeth
- Dental veneers are often known as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates. They can be made of porcelain or from resin composite materials. Although both porcelain veneers and resin veneers have their advantages, porcelain veneers mimic the natural light reflecting properties of natural teeth and resist stains better. Veneers last anywhere between 5 and 10 years and need to be replaced after this timeframe.
What are the advantages of veneers?- They can fix teeth that are discolored due to multiple reasons including root canals, stains from drugs and fluoride excess
- They can fix teeth that are worn down, chipped or broken and those that are misaligned or uneven
- They can fill large gaps between teeth
What is the procedure for getting a veneer?
- Diagnosis and treatment planning- This is the consultation phase with your dentist
- Preparation- Your dentist will remove ½ millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface after numbing the area with local anesthetic. A model of your tooth is made which constructs your veneer
- Bonding-This is the final step in which your dentist will cure the veneer after making all the necessary final adjustments
- Dental bonding is a procedure that applies a durable material to the surface of teeth. Dental bonding restores a smile that has been damaged by tooth decay, cracked or chipped teeth, discoloration, enlarged space between teeth, or misshapen teeth.
Bonding is a fast, usually painless and one of the least expensive of all cosmetic dental procedures. Cosmetic imperfections in teeth can usually be fixed with dental bonding in just one visit to the dentist.
- If you suffer from a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed part of the tooth and fill the area from where the decayed substance was removed. Fillings are used to repair cracked or broken teeth arising from cavities or from normal wear and tear of the teeth with habits such as nail-biting or tooth grinding.
We use a local anesthetic to numb the area before we fill it. We then test the area to determine if the decay has been effectively removed. The cavity is cleaned to rid the area of any bacteria and debris. The filling is conducted in multilayer process that involves applying tooth-colored material in layers. Each layer is applied and cured with a special light. As the multilayer process is complete, we will then shape the composite material and conduct the final restoration.
Caring for teeth with fillings- Follow good oral hygiene practice
- Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings, brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, and flossing daily
- Tooth sensitivity after a filling is normal but if a particular food is causing it, it’s advised to avoid such food for sometime following the filling
- If your tooth is extremely sensitive and you feel a sharp edge, call your dentist and schedule an appointment
- Over time, habits like smoking, and drinking coffee and tea can stain and discolor teeth. We offer professional, in-office whitening, which is proven to be more effective and safer than at-home whitening.
The in-office whitening brand we use Zoom whitening. Philips Zoom is not only proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades, it’s also safe. While other whitening products can harm teeth and gums, using Philips Zoom with Relief ACP actually gives you greater luster and protects enamel.
We also offer take home whitening. You can get a custom made tray and a kit to use at night for 2 weeks.
- A variety of factors could cause dental and facial irregularities. Some of these irregularities could be missing or extra teeth, crowned teeth, crooked teeth, misaligned jaw position, an underbite or an overbite and many others. Orthodontics is a special branch of dentistry which specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and correction of such irregularities.
Orthodontic irregularities most commonly are treated with braces. There are many variations of braces available to fit your needs. We use Clearcorrect in our practice. With ClearCorrect, we can straighten your teeth using a series of clear, custom, removable aligners. Each aligner moves your teeth just a little bit at a time until you eventually get straight teeth.
- Made of biocompatible materials used to replace missing teeth. This is the closest thing to having a natural tooth. With modern day techniques, we can use implants to replace 1 tooth to entire arches of teeth.
What are the advantages of implants?- They are more comfortable and stable than traditional dentures
- They diminish the bone resorption process (deterioration of jaw)
- Integrity of the facial structures is maintained
- Appearance is improved
- No need for adhesives inside the mouth as in the case of dentures
Dr. Hatfield works with specialist to provide the best treatment possible.
The specialist surgically places the implant and Dr. Hatfield will restore the implant once it has heal.
The restoration can range from a single crown, a bridge, or even a full plate denture.
