We offer a wide range of treatments and procedures focused on the prevention of dental and oral diseases, and safe, pain-free treatment of dental disorders and conditions. We are constantly updating our treatment options to provide you with the most efficient, affordable path to good dental health. Below are the list of services we offer:
- Hatfield Cosmetics and Family dentistry provides a full evaluation of each patient’s dental needs in order of importance and comfort. Each evaluation is performed by our doctor and trained, experienced staff and is based on the patient’s individual needs and the discretion and professional opinion of the dentist.A comprehensive exam includes x-ray scans of dentition, oral cancer screenings, examinations of the teeth, gums and jaw joints. The exam is designed to be complete and give the doctor a near perfect understanding of the current standing of each patient’s oral health. The comprehensive exam also includes a consultative esthetic exam, to evaluate the appearance of teeth and gums and consider the patient’s personal cosmetic preferences and available cosmetic care options.
- This consists of cleaning your teeth by scaling and polishing them. We often recommend an antiseptic mouthwash containing chlorhexidine, which is great for reducing the bacterial load in your mouth. The biggest finding we see during cleaning appointments is improper hygiene habits, we will take the time to show proper brushing and flossing techniques.
- Each visit to your dentist includes a basic fluoride treatment to prevent tooth decay, make the teeth more resistant and improve overall dental health between cleanings. Fluoride treatments during dental visits may come in the form of fluoride enhanced toothpastes, mouth rinses, or gels and foams. In the event that additional fluoride treatments are needed outside of routine dental visits, the dentist will prescribe take-home treatments with instructions for use. Each patient’s individual needs for fluoride treatments are evaluated by the dentist on a case by case basis.
- If you suffer from a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed part of the tooth and fill the area from where the decayed substance was removed. Fillings are used to repair cracked or broken teeth arising from cavities or from normal wear and tear of the teeth with habits such as nail-biting or tooth grinding. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area before we fill it. We then test the area to determine if the decay has been effectively removed. The cavity is cleaned to rid the area of any bacteria and debris. The filling is conducted in multilayer process that involves applying tooth-colored material in layers. Each layer is applied and cured with a special light. As the multilayer process is complete, we will then shape the composite material and conduct the final restoration.
Caring for teeth with fillings
- Follow good oral hygiene practice
- Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings, brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, and flossing daily
- Tooth sensitivity after a filling is normal but if a particular food is causing it, it’s advised to avoid such food for sometime following the filling
- If your tooth is extremely sensitive and you feel a sharp edge, call your dentist and schedule an appointment
- Dental sealants are a unique treatment option consisting of a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of each tooth. The plastic coating prevents against dental cavities and other forms of tooth decay. Sealants are most commonly applied to the back premolars and molars, which are more likely to experience decay because of the difficulty associated with brushing and flossing these teeth.Dental sealants are usually given to children and adolescents, who are are more likely to experience tooth decay on molars and premolars than adults. However, sealants are available to adults for preventative measures. Talk to the dentist to see if sealants are right for you!
- Root canal therapy is necessary when the nerve inside the tooth (pulp), becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can be due to many things including:
- Deep Decay
- Deep Restoration
- Fracture in the tooth
- Trauma
If the pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
Symptoms include:
- Pain
- Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold
- Tenderness to touch and chewing
- Discoloration of the tooth
- Swelling
- Drainage
- Tenderness in the lymph nodes as well as nearby bone and gingival tissues.
*However is it possible to have no symptoms*
Root Canal Therapy consist of removing the nerve/pulp from the tooth, cleaning out the canal, and placing a biocompatible material called gutta-purcha to seal the canal. In most cases a temporary filling is placed into the opening of the tooth and allowed to heal for about a month. The next step is a permanent filling and crown. A crown is usually necessary due to the brittleness of the tooth once the pulp is removed. If the tooth isn’t crowned and it fractures below the gum line little can be done to save the tooth and in most cases it has to be extracted. Crowning the tooth will help prevent this from occurring.
- Crowns and bridges are the most common restorative procedure in the dental industry. Custom porcelain crowns and bridges restore the look and function of teeth that have been lost or damaged. They also give patients the confidence of a restored smile without more invasive procedures or removal of damaged dentition. We provide same day dental crowns and bridges, see below for more information:What’s the Difference?
A crown is used to replace a single tooth, while a bridge is used to cover a row of missing teeth.
Why Get Dental Crowns?
- Can be used for weakened tooth structure caused by too much filling material, thus preventing fractures.
- Can be used to protect root canal therapy treated teeth from fractures
- To whiten, realign, or reshape existing teeth
- Can be used to help stabilize partials
Why Get Bridges?
- To regain function of missing teeth
- Prevent teeth from shifting due to missing teeth
- Dental veneers are often known as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates. They can be made of porcelain or from resin composite materials. Although both porcelain veneers and resin veneers have their advantages, porcelain veneers mimic the natural light reflecting properties of natural teeth and resist stains better. Veneers last anywhere between 5 and 10 years and need to be replaced after this timeframe. What are the advantages of veneers?
- They can fix teeth that are discolored due to multiple reasons including root canals, stains from drugs and fluoride excess
- They can fix teeth that are worn down, chipped or broken and those that are misaligned or uneven
- They can fill large gaps between teeth
What is the procedure for getting a veneer?
- Diagnosis and treatment planning- This is the consultation phase with your dentist
- Preparation- Your dentist will remove ½ millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface after numbing the area with local anesthetic. A model of your tooth is made which constructs your veneer
- Bonding-This is the final step in which your dentist will cure the veneer after making all the necessary final adjustments
- Dental bonding is a procedure that applies a durable material to the surface of teeth. Dental bonding restores a smile that has been damaged by tooth decay, cracked or chipped teeth, discoloration, enlarged space between teeth, or misshapen teeth.Bonding is a fast, usually painless and one of the least expensive of all cosmetic dental procedures. Cosmetic imperfections in teeth can usually be fixed with dental bonding in just one visit to the dentist.
- Made of biocompatible materials used to replace missing teeth. This is the closest thing to having a natural tooth. With modern day techniques, we can use implants to replace 1 tooth to entire arches of teeth.
What are the advantages of implants?- They are more comfortable and stable than traditional dentures
- They diminish the bone resorption process (deterioration of jaw)
- Integrity of the facial structures is maintained
- Appearance is improved
- No need for adhesives inside the mouth as in the case of dentures
Dr. Hatfield works with specialist to provide the best treatment possible.
The specialist surgically places the implant and Dr. Hatfield will restore the implant once it has heal.
The restoration can range from a single crown, a bridge, or even a full plate denture.
- Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
Dentures are custom-made in a dental laboratory from impressions taken of your mouth. Your dentist will determine which of the three types of dentures described below is best for you.Conventional Full Denture
A conventional full denture is placed in your mouth after any remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed. Healing may take several months, during which time you are without teeth.Immediate Full Denture
An immediate full denture is inserted immediately after the remaining teeth are removed. (Your dentist takes measurements and makes models of your jaw during a prior visit.) While immediate dentures offer the benefit of never having to be without your teeth, they must be relined once a month after being inserted until gums are completely healed. The reason is that the bone supporting the teeth reshapes as it heals, causing the denture to become loose
- A partial denture rests on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth. Sometimes crowns are placed on some of your natural teeth and serve as anchors for the appliance. Partial dentures offer a removable alternative to bridges.
We offer cast metal partials, flexible metal free partials, and immediate partials for placing the same day a tooth is extracted.
- A variety of factors could cause dental and facial irregularities. Some of these irregularities could be missing or extra teeth, crowned teeth, crooked teeth, misaligned jaw position, an underbite or an overbite and many others. Orthodontics is a special branch of dentistry which specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and correction of such irregularities.
Orthodontic irregularities most commonly are treated with braces. There are many variations of braces available to fit your needs. We use Clearcorrect in our practice. With ClearCorrect, we can straighten your teeth using a series of clear, custom, removable aligners. Each aligner moves your teeth just a little bit at a time until you eventually get straight teeth.
- Over time, habits like smoking, and drinking coffee and tea can stain and discolor teeth. We offer professional, in-office whitening, which is proven to be more effective and safer than at-home whitening.
The in-office whitening brand we use Zoom whitening. Philips Zoom is not only proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades, it’s also safe. While other whitening products can harm teeth and gums, using Philips Zoom with Relief ACP actually gives you greater luster and protects enamel.
We also offer take home whitening. You can get a custom made tray and a kit to use at night for 2 weeks.
