Digital Radiographs (X-rays)

Digital radiographs are one of the latest technological advances in dentistry and we use them for taking x-rays in our office. Digital x-rays use 90% less radiation than traditional x-rays. For instance, the amount of radiation a set of screening bitewing x-rays creates is now only a small fraction of the radiation you are exposed to when flying on an airplane. Digital x-rays also have numerous diagnostic benefits:

  • Instantly transferred to the computer and viewed immediately rather than waiting for traditional films to process for several minutes
  • X-ray viewing program on the computer allows us to utilize special tools to improve the diagnostic precision of the x-ray image
  • Able to be enlarged on the computer screen for easier viewing by the patient and dentist
  • Can often be corrected without having to take another x-ray exposure
  • Can be printed out or emailed electronically to other dental professionals and insurance companies
  • Environmentally friendly because they eliminate the need for film and film processing chemicals.
